This role is also responsible for the analytical functions that guide how CarMax strategically operates with third-partner lenders as well as manages our vehicle protection products including extended service plans, GAP coverage and auto insurance. The CCO is a member of the CarMax Auto Finance executive leadership team and is also expected to partner with other senior executives within the broader CarMax organization to set the primary strategic direction for the Auto Finance division of CarMax and to support and influence the incorporation of finance in other areas of the business such as Product, Operations, and Margins. This role has key partnerships with the CAF COO, CAF CFO, CarMax Treasurer, AVP Financial Services & Products, and is a member of the broader CarMax Analytics Leadership Team.What you will do:

  • Formulate and implement sound Origination strategies with the purposes of providing credit to CarMax customers and continuously improving and expanding the CAF credit offering and enhancing the effective use of the CarMax finance platform. Areas include but are not limited to underwriting strategies and enhancements, pricing strategies, statistical modeling and the understanding, implementing, and adjusting of credit strategies based on broader finance market dynamics.
  • Provide senior level direction for the development of Portfolio Management and Collections strategies with the purposes of delivering on budgeted profitability goals and key performance metrics of CAF’s $18 Billion portfolio.
  • Partner with the Financial Services & Products teams to optimize (a) the broader CarMax Lending platform, incorporating both CAF and partner lenders to balance retail sales and finance economics. Provide, and (b) CarMax’s voluntary protection product suite including pricing, coverage and customized targeting strategies.
  • Provide key senior level support to the CarMax Treasury team in the funding and Securitization process. This would include working with Rating Agencies, outside equity and debt investors, investment banks and Conduit banks in the marketing and presentation of the CAF business to create funds to allow for CAF to lend to consumers.
  • Provide Auto Finance leadership and guidance to Product and Marketing Teams in the effective identification, prioritization, goal setting and incorporation of finance into CarMax product offerings.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain industry partnerships and relationships to gain knowledge of industry trends and capabilities; evaluate that information in the context of CAF and CarMax; and develop strategies to leverage where necessary.
  • Help to drive the strategic planning process for CAF and CarMax as it relates to strategic plan development, project prioritization, costs, benefits, and risks.
  • Develop and maintain a Talent Management and Organizational framework to enable Risk and Analytics organization to effectively support both the operational and strategic needs of the business.

Leverage Advance Mathematical Skills and Strategic Thinking to Achieve Business ObjectivesThis role serves as an executive leader for CAF and CarMax. In this capacity, this person is responsible for setting CAF’s Origination strategy and supports development of the larger CAF and CarMax corporate strategies. This role represents CAF inside and outside of the CarMax organization, and with the CarMax Board of Directors, therefore a candidate must have the ability to communicate complex concepts and business insights in a way that is understood by a variety of audiences. A candidate should have the ability to inspire and lead their team to meet broad business goals and have a proven track record of both strategic and creative thinking to continually move the business forward.Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, related field or equivalent experience; Master’s Degree or MBA strongly recommended.
  • 15+ years of proven risk management experience (or equivalent) across multiple functional areas or products. Strong knowledge of financial services preferred.
  • 10+ years in a management role leading a sizable team of both individual contributors and management level staff with the ability to inspire and lead team to meet broad business goals
