Job DescriptionGeneral Summary:The Policy & Alliance Development Director is responsible for building policy initiatives and strategic alliances in support of corporate objectives as well as objectives for a defined disease area. This includes developing reimbursement policy strategies, supporting policy development aimed at securing access to therapies for patients such as reducing the cost burden that patients encounter when accessing and maintaining certain patient protections as well as supporting disease awareness, clinical trial awareness, and screening campaigns with strategic partners. To accomplish this work, this role will partner closely with disease area leaders, Public Affairs leadership, including the leaders of the State Affairs, Federal Affairs, and Advocacy components.Position will by a hybrid role working three days per week in either our D.C. or Boston office with some travel.Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and drives policy strategies in support of disease area objectives, including product reimbursement policy, regulatory engagement, and patient access strategies
  • Responsible for managing disease area portfolio of patient association and medical specialty society partnerships including direct management of complex alliances as well as working with state and grassroots teams to ensure alignment with local organizations
  • Leads the launches of new partnerships and the ongoing governance of existing alliances. Committee members will include executives from various functions within Vertex and from the alliance partners. Ensures that all joint committees have shared goals, expectations, operating principles, and performance metrics regarding strategic partnerships
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of disease-specific Vertex position statements and issues education supporting collateral, working in partnership with government affairs and other counterparts to review/tailor materials as needed day-to-day
  • Grows visibility in the policy arena by representing the organization in relevant speaker’s venues and by developing alliances with policy counterparts at key patient organizations, provider associations, payer community and industry partners
  • Works with certain policy consultants, ensuring that expertise is fully utilized and that deliverables are timely and of high-quality
  • Serves as a liaison to certain internal committees to keep them apprised of policy priorities and to engage the committee in providing directional input

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated outstanding strategic planning, communication and presentation skills
  • Pharmaceutical sector or non-profit sector and therapeutic area experience required
  • Experience in patient advocacy, government affairs, managed markets or public policy
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the complexities of the drug development process and regulatory requirements
  • Proven teamwork and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact and influence all levels of business
  • Experience within the Kidney disease state area, preferred

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline
  • Typically requires 10 years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range: $194,000 – $291,000Disclosure Statement:The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements.
