NSCC Academic Union – Bedford, NS (3 days ago) The NSCC Academic Union (NSCCAU) is a new labour union in Nova Scotia, formed in the spring of 2018. The NSCCAU represents over 900 faculty and professional support employees of the NSCC. Reporting to the NSCCAU Executive, the Managing Director/Business Manager has primary responsibility for the day-to-day direction and operation of the NSCCAU Office.
Duties and Responsibilities The primary duties and responsibilities of this position are: Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of the NSCCAU under the guidance and direction of the Executive Committee. Collect, analyze and interpret information and data in both the internal and external organizational environments for the purposes of strategy creation, implementation, and evaluation. Direct, advise, and evaluate staff engaged in providing services to members, managing records, securing and storing information, accounting, purchasing, or other administrative services.
Represent the organization, and act on behalf of the organization as requested by the Executive Committee. Develop and recommend to the Executive Committee organizational policies and procedures that improve member services, promote employee commitment and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals and objectives. Direct and control compliance with organizational procedures and policies.
Allocate material, human and financial resources to implement organizational policies and programs. Administer and manage budgets. Prepare reports and briefs for Executive Meetings, Representative Council Meetings, and General Meetings of the union.
Provide information and support to the executive committee members and committee chairs to facilitate accomplishment of their mandates. Manage the planning and organizing of major union events as well as hiring of staff and coordinate training for staff. Working Conditions/Special Circumstances: Most work will take place in an environmentally controlled office space.
Some travel will be required to attend offsite meetings and events. From time to time, weekend and evening work is required. At times, the work environment is high stress in nature.
Qualifications Knowledge: A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in business administration or a related field or equivalent. At least 10 years of experience in management or business administration. Experience working in a unionized environment would be an asset.

Office space will be available to you as required at 1550 Bedford Highway, Suite 300 Sun Tower.
