We are looking for a Senior Linux Kernel DeveloperSenior Kernel Development Engineers are technical leaders that provide technical direction, and then follow through with detailed analysis, designs, and code that meets the upstream community bar. They are equally comfortable leading small, focused project teams as well as making major direct contributions to the project. They deliver features with minimal direct oversight.The baseline individual for this role will be comfortable with the Linux Kernel and understand how to develop in languages such as C, Assembly and Python in a Linux environment. Experience with Linux package management, version control systems, automated build processes, and automated testing are a must. Specific in depth knowledge of the use, design, and development of Linux operating system internals is required for this role.Key job responsibilities
– Help deliver secure, stable,and performant Linux kernel builds to our customer
– Drive operational improvements and influence the team’s development roadmap
– Review code from peers and provide feedback
– Mentor and develop junior engineers and perform interviewsAbout the team
The successful candidate will be joining the Amazon Linux Kernel team in AWS EC2.The Kernel and Operating System group is responsible for the design and maintenance of Amazon’s core compute platforms, with a special focus on EC2, the Elastic Compute Cloud that is the basis for much of Amazon Web Services (AWS). We’re also responsible for tools associated with the performance characterization, qualification, build and deployment of our Linux platforms. The Amazon Linux Kernel team is responsible for the providing secure, reliable, robust and performant kernel for EC2 platforms.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS– 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
– 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
– 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
– Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
– Previous contribution to the Linux kernel, in the form of code, fixes, and upstream reviews.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS– Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market.
