While we have been improving lives of HIV patients for 30 years, this is an especially exciting time to be at ViiV, as we evaluate novel approaches to treatment and prevention that could further reduce the impact of HIV on individuals and communities. Background The US HIV and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) markets are a highly complex fusion of medical, socio-economic and demographic dimensions. These forces intersect across physician, payer, pharmacy, patient, community and policy stakeholder groups in ways unique to HIV.
In the USA diagnosis of HIV is hampered by issues of stigma and lack of access to care. Access to care is poor in socio-economically disadvantaged populations (where the disease is most prevalent). Effective treatment of HIV has improved markedly in recent years and in many patients can result in the virus being suppressed to undetectable levels.
Recent evidence has shown that viral suppression prevents sexual transmission of the virus. Despite this, in the US there are approximately 40,000 new HIV infections each year and over 1 million people are estimated to be at risk of being exposed to HIV infection. However, only around 20% are currently received daily oral PrEP medication.
A long-acting regimen offers the opportunity for broader use of PrEP due to potential efficacy, dosing and patient preference advantages Opportunity ViiV is seeking a Senior Director for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Marketing to lead development and execution of launch plans for an investigational long-acting regimen for PrEP. This is not a typical pharmaceutical marketing role and the successful candidate will not be a typical pharmaceutical marketer. Differences in the HIV prevention market compared with the HIV treatment market necessitate unique and dedicated resources to support the market launch preparation and commercialization efforts.
This role will suit marketers who thrive in new and dynamic markets, who are excited by the challenge of reaching new customers in unconventional ways, and who can see opportunities to drive disruption where others cannot. Responsibilities include: Development of launch vision, strategies and tactics for successful commercialization as part of a team with Global Commercial Strategy Building and leading the PrEP US marketing team and go-to-market model Partner with critical internal stakeholders including Global Commercial Strategy, Sales, Insights & Analytics, Medical Affairs, Communications & External Affairs, Market Access and Government Affairs Ensure competitiveness in existing PrEP market and communicate the profile of the long-acting regimen to appeal to new customer segments appropriate for PrEP Driving for bold innovation across HCP, consumer, out-of-home and digital advertising and broader public health engagements to ensure that our customers are aware of a new long-acting PrEP option and know how to access it Representing ViiV Healthcare and our medicines to critical external stakeholders such as external experts and community-based organizations The role will report to the VP of Marketing, ViiV Healthcare US. Responsibilities Lead the brand marketing launch efforts including leadership of cross-functional marketing launch team, close teamwork with Global Commercial counterparts, assess US marketplace, develop and implement strategies and tactics to achieve corporate goals (sales, profit, share) and measure trends and success.
All work has to be culturally sensitive and competent to address the diversity and socio-economic standing of people at risk of HIV infection. Especially important in the conduct of the role is effective partnership with US Medical Affairs, US Sales, external development partners and other brand teams within ViiV Healthcare US Marketing. Lead and role model performance with integrity, being a role model for understanding, teaching and explaining commercial policies and practices.
Influence and contribute to Global Commercial and Global Medical as they develop global strategies and tactics Recruit, train and develop talented individuals into marketing roles, maintain competencies competitive with or better than other companies in the HIV field Lead and inspire innovation in the marketing teams and cross-functional stakeholders (eg, healthcare practitioner engagement, digital communications, direct to consumer campaigns, community engagement, etc.) Work to develop robust forecasts Propose, in conjunction with Payer Strategy & Operations, pricing and discounting strategies. Appoint, select and manage advertising agencies and other external vendors to ensure promotional campaigns are creative, impactful and measured for ROI.
Understand complex trends in the marketplace, (e.g. through analysis and market research) and to propose and execute promotional resource allocation across and between brands.
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Marketing or related discipline 7 years pharmaceutical experience to include Sales, Commercial and/or Marketing roles including management/supervisory experiences MBA or Masters Degree in Marketing or related disciplines Experience in Pharmaceutical Marketing, Commercial Operations, Sales or Account Management Experience driving disruptive innovation across digital marketing, consumer initiatives or public health partnerships Experience commercializing specialty products, preventative medicines or products in sensitive disease states in the US Experience in Market Research, marketing promotions, strategy, tactics and resource allocation. Experience with consumer activation campaigns, direct to consumer marketing and digital marketing Ability to motivate, lead and influence across various levels and within various functions – policy, medical, market access, account teams, sales and brand marketing. Understanding of environmental/policy issues and trends that may influence performance.
Confidence discussing complex scientific, clinical and social challenges with experienced medical practitioners (internal and external) Excellent communication (written & verbal), interpersonal influence and prioritization skills. Strong business acumen and demonstrated analytical skills. Knowledge and practical application of compliance acumen in the pharmaceutical space.
Prior experience in Pharmaceutical New Product Planning or drug development roles.
