Tell me about yourself and what it is that you do?

Born in Kathmandu, Nepal, then left to Sydney to complete my studies in 2006. But since 2015 I have been solo travelling the world, been to 47 countries so far and have lived in 7. I travel and work full time offering travel tips on my website about the places I have been, I provide exposure for businesses through my Instagram and website, plus I also work remotely for a cloud management software company all leading to my digital nomad lifestyle.

When did you start working remotely as a digital nomad and how did that come about?

I started back in 2016. I was already travelling by that point and was living in Laos. It was the year I started taking travel blogging seriously which made me an income through ads plus I was working on a consultation basis on the side.

What would go down as the biggest achievement so far and what makes you so proud of this?

Biggest achievement so far for me is my website annasherchand.com and with that to be able to work with big brands such as National Geographic, Skyscanner, 5 star luxury hotels such as Hyatt Regency, and getting paid for my services as well as be able to work remotely. I am proud of what I have achieved so far because it has been my dream and I have worked day and night to be able to have this lifesyle. So for it to come true has been real life changing experience and exactly the reason that keeps me going also.

Do you have any favourite cafes, places or coworking spaces that you like to work remotely from when not at home and why are these your favourite?

When I decide to live in a place, I like to work from home. That being said, what I can share with you is when I do work from cafes/coworking places sometimes, the common thing they all have is a fast WIFI, quiet space, some sort of view, great coffee, smoothies, and delicious food.

How do you want to improve yourself in the next year?

I want to be able to strike a fine balance between my work life and personal life which at the moment it is weighing more towards my work. Also, I am working on my abs! So far I can see two of them pop out, now let’s see if I can get all of it!

What does a typical workday look like for you and how do you manage your time and schedule effectively?

My typical workday involves coffee and a lot of work. I do get distracted like we all do but I bring myself back to work at hand through a quick 2 mins breathing exercise. I find that to be really helpful for me.

Do you have any recommendations for software or tools which are invaluable to you as a digital nomad and how do they help you to stay productive?

When it comes to my work productivity. I am actually a hand written person what I mean by that is I am the type of person who writes goals in writing and sticks it up on my wall. It helps me get it out of my head and see it visually. Works for me to stay productive.

That said, along with your usual laptop, phone, wifi, power bank something that has been invaluable is Microsoft Teams software for my staff meetings and backing up my email data up in cloud.

If you could give one bit of advice to anybody out there that is dreaming about working remotely what would that be?

Go for it! It is not going to be easy but it will be worth it.

For now that ends this interview, just wanted to say a huge thanks to Anna for taking her time out to join us and help other remote workers and digital nomads out there. Keep kicking those goals! For anyone that wants to keep an eye out for Anna and her adventures, head on over to her website Anna Sherchand.
